BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2's Izan Guevara put in a mature ride to achieve his goal of reducing the gap in the championship fight by taking P4 in today's Grand Prix of Malaysia. He is now second in the standings with a 3.5-point gap to first. Meanwhile, teammate Alberto Ferrández focused on learning as much as possible in his first race at the technically tricky Sepang International Circuit and crossed the finish line in P20.

Guevara started from P3 and slotted into fourth position on the opening lap. His target was to stay with the leading group, but a gap of more than 0.5s had started to form by lap 3. One lap later, championship leader Manuel Gonzalez was running directly behind him, nearly 2s adrift. Guevara responded by managing the gap to his title rival and, as he struggled to match the pace of the riders ahead, shifted his focus to the championship battle. Maintaining his concentration throughout the long and hot 17-lap contest, he secured fourth place at the chequered flag, crossing the line 6.182s behind the winner.

Ferrández started from P24 and held his position on the opening lap before becoming embroiled in several battles. Although three riders crashed across laps 2 to 4, the rookie found himself in P23 overall. He was chasing Zonta van den Goorbergh and made a successful pass on lap 9. With two more riders crashing over the following two laps, the number 54 moved up to 20th place. He maintained that position all the way to the chequered flag, finishing 30.301s behind the race winner.

Guevara remains second in the Moto2 World Championship standings with 273 points and has reduced the gap to the championship leader to 3.5 points. Teammate Alberto Ferrández sits in joint 22nd overall with 17.5 points, while the BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 Team holds third place in the team standings with 290.5 points.

"Fourth place for Izan today is a result we can be satisfied with. We've been competitive from the very beginning of the weekend and had reason to hope we could fight for a podium, but the most important thing was to finish an extremely difficult race and take a few more points out of Manuel in the championship. We can also be confident that we're performing strongly at every circuit.

"I want to congratulate Izan because he consistently knows how to get the best possible result out of every situation. When he knows he has the pace to win, he goes for the victory. When he understands that a different result is the best he can achieve, he manages the race accordingly. He doesn't get carried away by enthusiasm or take unnecessary risks. That's an important quality, and he showed it again today. Congratulations to him and to the whole team. We keep pushing.

"For Alberto, we have to look at both the positives and the areas where he can improve, without expecting too much too soon. From the middle of the race onwards, when managing the tyres, the bike and physical fatigue became particularly difficult, he showed that he could maintain his pace better than many riders ahead of him, who experienced a much more significant drop in performance. He continues to show encouraging signs, and we'll keep building on that."

"Finishing fourth today, I think it was one of the toughest races I've had physically. I felt strong coming into the weekend, and I was very active on the bike throughout the race. I managed to stay focused despite the heat, but once I got back to the garage, I really felt its full effect and became quite overwhelmed by it.

"I tried to manage the tyres as well as possible, but I was struggling to get the bike to turn, which meant I lost grip on the way out of the corners. I was waiting to see if Piqueras would lose some pace, because he hadn't looked quite so strong yesterday, but he rode a really good race and was faster than I expected.

"Fourth place means we've taken a few more points out of Manu in the championship. The goal was to leave here leading, and although we didn't quite achieve the result we wanted, we're getting closer, which is positive. The pace was very strong at the beginning, but I had to slow down later on to make sure I could reach the finish. Overall, we've been very consistent throughout the weekend, so I'm happy with that. A big thank you to the team for all their hard work."

"Today was a really difficult race. I haven't had a good feeling with the bike since yesterday, and I struggled to find a set-up that I felt comfortable with. We made several more changes today, but unfortunately none of them gave me the feeling I was looking for.

"Sometimes you have races like this, and the important thing is to keep working, stay focused, and continue pushing. We'll take what we can learn from this weekend and do our best to come back stronger at the next one."
