Guevara and Ferrández Fight Through the Field in San Marino GP to Take P6 & P14

BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2's Izan Guevara produced an impressive recovery ride at the Grand Prix of San Marino and the Rimini Riviera, charging from P14 on the grid to finish P6. Despite riding with an injured left hand, Alberto Ferrández also made strong progress at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, moving from P21 to P14 to score points for the sixth time this season.

BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2's Izan Guevara took sixth place at the Grand Prix of San Marino and the Rimini Riviera after a determined ride through the field in the 22-lap contest. Rookie Alberto Ferrández was riding with an injured left hand but still secured 14th place and added two more points to his championship tally after another solid performance.

Guevara started from P14 following a six-place grid position penalty and immediately moved forward, completing the opening lap in eighth place. After battling with David Alonso and Tony Arbolino in the early stages, he resumed his charge by overtaking Daniel Muñoz for seventh on lap 6 and moved into sixth when Filip Salač ran wide three laps later. As the race entered the final stages, Guevara overtook Alonso López on lap 15 and closed in on the group fighting for the podium. Despite looking set for a top-5 finish, he ultimately took the chequered flag in P6 after a hard battle with Arbolino. Guevara finished 6.196s from the winner.

Riding with a special helmet to honour Misano – a circuit he loves – Ferrández also enjoyed a positive race after starting from P21 following a three-place grid position penalty. The rookie steadily worked his way through the field, climbing from 18th at the end of the second lap to 16th by lap 9. He entered the points on lap 14 after passing Aaron Canet and gained another position one lap later when Sergio García served a long-lap penalty. Despite closing in on Joe Roberts in the final stages, Ferrández crossed the line in P14, 22.259s from first.

Guevara remains second in the championship standings with 185 points and now trails the leader by 47.5 points. Ferrández sits 20th overall with 17.5 points, while the BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 team holds third place in the team standings with 202.5 points.

The team will now travel to the Red Bull Ring – Spielberg for the Grand Prix of Austria, taking place from 18-20 September.

"First of all, we have to be honest and be happy with today. It's true that Izan lost a few more points to Gonzalez in the championship, but he rode a great race and, considering where he started from, it was an excellent comeback. He was very good in the opening laps, recovering a lot of positions, and once again he showed how well he can manage these races. When you start from so far back, you know you cannot simply go out and win, so the priority is to bring home as many points as possible. He never throws anything away and is using his head as well as all his other qualities.

"Unfortunately, in the final laps he had an issue with the dashboard, which remained on the warning screen, which meant he could no longer see the other information. Without that, perhaps we could have hoped to recover a few more positions, but overall we have to be satisfied with the race he had.

"For Alberto, I would say today's race was well above what we expected this morning. He came into the box with a swollen hand, and at that point we simply asked him to try and do his best, and complete as many laps as he could. If it became too painful, the plan was to stop and focus on recovering in time for Austria. Instead, he not only finished the race, but also brought home some really important points for us – points we certainly were not expecting before the race. That was a great effort from him.

"So, all things considered, it has been a positive weekend for the two riders, although there is naturally a little regret because we could have done even more, and the championship leader is now a little further away than before. I want to thank Yamaha, Pramac, all our sponsors and, above all, the whole team for the great work they continue to do to put our riders in the best possible position."

"Today's race was mainly shaped by starting from 14th. Considering the pace we had, I think we could have fought for the victory, so starting from so far back meant those possibilities disappeared straight away. The weekend has been a little strange because we never had an incredible feeling throughout the sessions, but today we were still able to fight at the front, so I'm really happy with the race I did and very proud of the work the team has done all weekend.

"We managed to fight our way back and get into the podium battle. I was running in fifth position from lap 15 but, with four laps to go, I had a problem on the dashboard and could no longer see some information. At that point, I had around 0.7s to the rider behind me, and I wanted to control that gap while preparing to attack in the final two laps. I still felt I had a little more potential to extract from the bike, but without the information telling me when I needed to push, I suddenly saw the rider behind trying to overtake me with two laps to go. From that moment, I had to focus on defending, and that cost me the chance to fight for the podium.

"I'm honestly frustrated about that part because I believe the podium was possible today. But at the same time, I think we rode a great race. To start 14th and spend a substantial part of the race fighting in fifth is a very positive result, and finishing sixth still gives us important points.

"We keep working and we keep fighting. Until the championship is decided, we will continue to give everything we have."

"Today was a very positive day. After yesterday's penalty, which meant starting from further back, and also after hurting my left hand, we weren't even sure this morning whether I would be able to finish the race. I decided to start anyway, and I had to adapt a lot because I was in quite a lot of pain with my left hand.

"After a few laps, I found my rhythm and was able to manage the pain better. From there, I started moving forward little by little, and we managed to finish a good race and score some important points for the championship. Considering everything that happened, I'm really happy with that.

"Unfortunately, I know I could have done more this weekend. We had a lot of bad luck yesterday, but that's racing. We have to keep working in the same way, take the positives from today, and look ahead to Austria."
