BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 Finish Hard-Fought British GP Race in P5 & P15

BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2's Izan Guevara made a superb start to the Grand Prix of Great Britain Moto2 Race, but chatter in the second half saw him finish fifth. Rookie Alberto Ferrández battled hard throughout the 17-lap race at Silverstone to secure 15th place and collect points for the fifth time this season.

BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2's Izan Guevara enjoyed the perfect start to the 17-lap Grand Prix of Great Britain Moto2 Race. Despite chatter affecting his pace in the second half of the contest, he crossed the finish line in P5 and reduced the gap to the championship leader. Rookie Alberto Ferrández again demonstrated his talent at a circuit he was racing at for the first time, climbing from P20 on the grid to P15 at the chequered flag to finish in the points once more this season.

Starting from his third pole position this year, Guevara secured the holeshot and immediately found himself in an intense battle with Alonso Lopez but completed the opening lap in the lead. He initially built a small advantage before Daniel Holgado closed the gap and challenged on lap nine. As the fight at the front intensified, five more riders joined the battle and Guevara gradually slipped back. With Tony Arbolino crashing out and Manuel Gonzalez suffering a technical issue following an on-track collision, Guevara ultimately took the chequered flag in P5, 2.555s behind the race winner.

Ferrández made a strong start from P20, moving up to 16th on the opening lap before joining a large group contesting positions around the edge of the points. The close racing provided valuable experience for the rookie at a circuit new to him. After producing several overtakes during the race, he crossed the finish line in P15, 15.063s from first.

Guevara remains second in the championship on 155 points, reducing the gap to the leader to 42.5 points. Ferrández sits in 21st overall with 15.5 points, while the BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 Team holds third place in the team standings with 170.5 points.

The team will now enjoy a two-week break before returning to action at MotorLand Aragón for the Grand Prix of Aragon, taking place from 28-30 August.

"After the pole position and an excellent first part of the race from Izan, it's clear that we were hoping for something more. Izan was still very good, as he kept his composure and did not let the pressure get the better of him. He had some issues with the tyres from halfway through the race onwards, but he managed them well and still brought home a result that allows him to gain nine points on the championship leader. This is our objective, to close the gap to the leader, so overall it was very good.

"Now we'll try to understand how we can be even more effective in the final part of the race. The improvements we've made to the bike here have made us significantly faster over a single lap, and now we'll work on achieving the same improvement in terms of race distance.

"As for Alberto, I continue to be very positive about him because scoring a point at a track where he had never ridden before was certainly not easy. He finished ahead of some very experienced riders, so once again I want to congratulate him. "It's clear that both we and Alberto want to see him fighting in the positions that matter. But he needs to be patient, he needs to keep working, and he needs to know that all of us are working for him. We're very happy with him."

"At the beginning, I felt very comfortable and was riding calmly, maintaining a gap of around 0.3 to 0.5 seconds to the rider behind. But suddenly, the bike started to jump at the front, and I had a lot of chatter. I was almost unable to get the bike to turn properly, so everyone started attacking me and there was not much I could do without risking a crash. The change in the bike from the first part of the race to the second was very significant.

"I also lost some time when [Tony] Arbolino crashed, as I had just run slightly wide and had to correct my line. That created a gap to the front group, which was difficult to close, and I didn't really have the pace to reach them anyway. So, I had to settle for fifth position. The positive is that we managed to cut some points from the championship leader, although it is frustrating because I felt very strong physically and felt I had the potential to fight for the victory.

"I expected a lot from today because I was feeling so comfortable during the first part of the race. To see all that work compromised with six or seven laps to go is very frustrating. We need to find a way to make the bike turn better, because I think this is where we lose the most, especially at circuits with long corners.

"There are still many races left and not many stop-and-go circuits on the calendar, so we'll see how we can manage it. Now we just need to keep working and focus on the next one."

"Today was another positive day in Silverstone. It was a new track for me this weekend, so it was a bit difficult because it's very long and has a lot of fast corners. Anyway, in the race we made another step forward and had a good pace. We continue to grow, and I battled to stay in the points throughout the race in a group fighting for twelfth, so I'm happy with that.

"We had some problems towards the end of the race, but we know we have more potential, and we're happy with the progress we're making. The next race is Aragón, and I know the track, so I'm ready for it."
