BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2's Izan Guevara had a perfect start to the Grand Prix of Catalunya Moto2 race, allowing him to take third place and his fourth podium of the season. Alberto Ferrández had a good learning experience in the midpack. He completed the 21-lap race in P18.

Starting from P11, Guevara immediately moved forward, gaining six positions on the opening lap. The BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 rider quickly closed a 0.7s gap and briefly climbed higher after overtaking Alonso Lopez on lap 3 but dropped back before regrouping. He returned to P4 soon after and, managing his race pace, closed in on a podium battle. With three laps to go, Guevara passed Iván Ortolá for P3 and secured the third position, finishing 4.205s behind the winner.

Ferrández started his home Grand Prix from a career-best P17. He made a strong launch to P16 but was pushed back to P20 early on amid intense midpack battles. The BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 rookie fought within a tight group, sparring with riders including Colin Veijer and Sergio García. After a late crash by Veijer ahead had promoted him, Ferrández was narrowly overtaken on the final lap by Tony Arbolino, and finished in P18, 21.405s from first.

Today's results keep Guevara second in the championship with 86 points, while Ferrández now sits in 25th place with 1.5 points. The BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 Team are third with 87.5 points.

The team will be back in action at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for a one-day IRTA Test on Tuesday 19 May.

"This third place for Izan makes us particularly happy and satisfied because yesterday we were clearly struggling. Last night we did a very good job analysing the data and trying to put Izan in the best possible condition to express his full potential today. And he did exactly that.

"In the opening laps Izan rode like a lion, but then he was also intelligent enough to understand where his limit was, manage it properly, and avoid stressing the tyres too much. That allowed him to attack at the end and secure a podium finish. Honestly, when you are able to finish on the podium even on a difficult weekend, it means you are operating at a very high level.

"As for Alberto, at the end of the race maybe we as a team were even happier than he was himself, and that's completely normal. A rider always wants more and wants to fight for the victory, but he is still very young and needs to understand that these things take time.

"For us, seeing him consistently battling around the points against riders who are far more experienced and already established in the category is already very important. We are convinced that soon his full potential will blossom."

"It was an incredible race. At the start I lost a little bit of ground in the first corner, but honestly the key today was tyre management and staying calm throughout the race.

"At one point I felt the riders ahead were pushing too hard and using too much tyre too early, so I decided not to follow them and instead stick to the strategy we had planned. I tried to manage the tyres carefully and save something for the final part of the race.

"In the end, I think that made the difference because some riders arrived at the last laps with the tyres already completely worn out, while I still had enough left to attack. That allowed me to close the gap and make the move when it mattered most.

"I'm very proud of the race we managed today and especially of the way we controlled and managed everything from start to finish."

"Today was quite a difficult race for me because from the beginning I didn't have a very good feeling with the new tyres. I tried to push and stay with the front group, but I was struggling and couldn't ride the way I wanted.

"Then in Turn 1, I also had some issues with other riders and after that I found myself alone for most of the race, which made things even more complicated.

"The positive aspect is that in the second half of the race, especially in the final laps, I started to feel much stronger than many of the riders around me. Our pace was actually very good at that stage, and I was able to make several nice overtakes.

"We still need to improve our performance with the new tyres, and that is an area we are continuing to work on. But, overall, we have to keep following this direction and continue improving step by step."
