Izan Guevara Snatches His Third Moto2 Pole of 2026 at Silverstone with Stunning All-Time Lap Record

The BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 team kicked it up a gear on the Grand Prix of Great Britain Saturday. Izan Guevara captured his third pole position of 2026 and third-consecutive front-row starting position. Rookie Alberto Ferrández came very close to going through to Q2, but he ultimately qualified in P20.

BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2's Izan Guevara will start his championship title chase in tomorrow's Grand Prix of Great Britain Moto2 Race from pole position – his third pole and sixth front-row start of the season. Alberto Ferrández gave a good effort in Q1 to go on to Q2 but ultimately qualified in 20th place.

Guevara's benchmark Q2 lap put him into first place with a new lap record of 2'01.483s. He was still in first as he headed back to pit lane, and soon after the session was red flagged due to an incident in Turn 11. Once qualifying action resumed, the Spaniard opted to start his second stint very late to save a set of fresh tyres. His record time, set on lap 2/4, kept him in first position with a 0.326s margin over his closest rival.

Ferrández made big progress again on his second day at the Silverstone track. He took part in Q1 and held P3 after his first stint. His best attempt of 2'02.955s, set on lap 2/6, was enough to keep him in that position until the final time attacks. Ferrández ended the session in P6, putting him in P20 on the grid.

Tomorrow, the 17-lap Moto2 Race will start at 11:15 (GMT+1).

"It was a fantastic day for Izan and for the whole team. We took pole position, set a new All-Time Lap Record and, perhaps most importantly, Izan was so fast from his very first run that we were able to manage our tyre allocation strategically. We didn't need to use a new set of tyres to secure pole, which means we have an extra set available for tomorrow's race. Everything came together perfectly today.

"It's also important to recognise the work done since yesterday. We started the weekend with some chatter, which is something we have experienced several times this season, but Izan and the team analysed the problem, worked on the bike, and found a way to improve it. I'm really proud of everyone because the progress over the last two days has been excellent.

"Alberto was understandably frustrated today, but we have to remember that he is often competing on circuits he has never seen before, against riders who already have two or three years of Moto2 experience. In terms of circuit knowledge, he's not just a few months behind, but several years. Despite that, he is working well with the team and is continuing to close the gap to the front. I understand that he's not happy with his position, but I want him to know that we are happy with the work he's doing and the progress he's making."

"It was an incredible lap, and honestly I wasn't expecting to go 0.332 seconds faster than the previous All-Time Lap Record. To set a new one here is something I'm very happy about. We were aiming to start from the first two rows, so taking pole position is a fantastic result. It's my third pole of the season, so I'm very happy with that.

"After that lap, I knew it would be difficult to improve, so there was no reason to use another tyre just to go back out. We had already achieved our goal, and I preferred to save the tyre for tomorrow's race. The race pace also looks good. We have been able to run consistently, although we still have some chatter to manage, so there are a few things we can work on before the race.

"I expect it to be a close race with a group of riders fighting together, but I feel ready. Whenever I line up on the grid, I'm always looking for the best possible result, and tomorrow that means fighting for the victory. The championship is very important, so every point counts, and we'll give everything to fight for the top step of the podium."

"I'm really happy with how today went. This morning I improved both my feeling with the track and my lap time, which was important after yesterday because Silverstone is still a new circuit for me. I felt more comfortable and was able to understand the track better.

"In qualifying, I made a few mistakes because I was trying to push hard, especially on my first lap, and that cost me some time. But overall, I'm happy because we were quite close to the Q2 group, and I know we have the potential to have a good race tomorrow. It will be a long race on a long and demanding circuit, but I'm ready and confident."
