Izan Guevara & Alberto Ferrández Take P8 & P24 on Italian GP Grid in Intense Moto2 Qualifying Sessions
BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2's Izan Guevara pushed hard in a challenging Grand Prix of Italy Q2 session today to secure P8 on the grid. Rookie Alberto Ferrández didn't have the Q1 outing at Mugello he had hoped for due to a lack of feeling whilst braking. He will start tomorrow's race from P24.

The pressure was on BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2's Izan Guevara during the Grand Prix of Italy Q2 session after yellow flags spoiled his first flying lap. He ultimately secured P8 on the grid with his final push in the shoot-out. Teammate Alberto Ferrández was unable to show his full potential in Q1. His early qualifying efforts kept him in P24 in the classifications.

Guevara had topped FP2 this morning with an, at the time, new Moto2 All-Time Lap Record at Mugello. He was keen to keep the positive momentum going, but his first hot lap was cancelled due to a yellow flag in Sector 1. He opted to abort his second try and hurry back to the pits to then make sure he would be the first rider to head out for a second run. Despite not being able to produce the perfect lap, his strategy still allowed him to set a 1'49.304 on lap 6/6 that put him in P8 on the grid.

Ferrández used the Saturday to get better acquainted with the physical Mugello track. He entered Q1 highly motivated but quickly returned to the box after lap 2 due to an uncomfortable feeling under braking. Holding 10th place, he started his second run with larger brake discs, but he was unable to find an improvement. His 1'50.248s, posted on lap 2/5, secured him 24th on the grid.

The 19-lap Moto2 race will take place on Sunday, starting at 12:15 (GMT+2).

"After the excellent lap time Izan set this morning, it's normal that we expected a little bit more from qualifying. Unfortunately, his first attempt was compromised and had to be aborted, so we decided to bring him back into the box immediately, fit a fresh set of tyres, and send him out earlier to give him two laps and avoid some of the traffic. He was putting together another strong lap but then had a moment with the front, and he was fortunate to save the bike without crashing.

"At Mugello, the soft Pirelli tyre really offers peak performance for only one lap or slightly more, so losing those opportunities is costly. That said, knowing the pace Izan showed yesterday, this morning, and throughout the weekend, we are not worried about the race. He has the speed to fight at the front and, as he has shown recently, he can certainly recover positions.

"Alberto's session was also affected by an issue. He aborted his run very early because he was not comfortable under braking and asked for larger brake discs to increase stopping power and improve his feeling. That forced us to spend more time than planned in the garage, and by the time he returned to the track most of the field had already gone out, leaving him without references and largely on his own.

"Even so, Alberto improved his lap time compared to yesterday and, most importantly, the braking issue was solved. We know the result does not fully reflect his potential, but the experience is part of the learning process, and I am confident he can make up positions in the race."

"I'm not completely satisfied with the result because our potential was higher than eighth place. In qualifying, the first flying lap was the most important one, but I ran into a yellow flag, and on the second attempt I had a front-end issue that prevented me from improving.

"Even so, we are not far from where we want to be. The gaps are small, and despite a few problems during the session, we still managed to secure a position close enough to fight at the front.

"What gives me confidence is our race pace. We have been strong all weekend, and I know we have the speed to battle with the leading group. The key tomorrow will be getting a good start, staying with the front pack, and making sure the group does not break away.

"Our objective remains the same: fight for the podium. The starting position is important, but what really matters is putting together a strong race and being in contention when it counts."

"Today was a difficult day for us because we had a few problems throughout the sessions. In the morning, I crashed on my first lap in FP2, which was not the ideal way to start the day, and in the afternoon we also faced some issues that affected our work.

"Even so, we kept working and trying to improve the bike and my feeling on track. The result is not where we would like to be, but we have learned a lot and gathered useful information.

"The goal for tomorrow is clear: I want to recover as many positions as possible and fight all the way through the race. I will give my maximum and try to come back strong."
