The BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 Team experienced a tough qualifying session on Saturday at the Grand Prix of Catalunya. Izan Guevara delivered a late lap in Q2 to claim 11th on the grid after an earlier effort was ruled out for exceeding track limits. Rookie Alberto Ferrández showed good speed in his first Q2 appearance but saw his final lap cut short when a rival crashed into him, leaving him 17th – still his best qualifying performance of the season.

The BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 Team faced challenges during the Grand Prix of Catalunya Moto2 Q2 session. Izan Guevara secured P11 on the grid with his final push in the shoot-out, having had an earlier hot lap cancelled for exceeding track limits. Teammate Alberto Ferrández was unable to finish his best lap due to an incident with a rival. He still held P17 on the grid, the best qualifying result of his rookie season so far.

Guevara knew the battle for front row in Barcelona would be fierce. However, his best hot lap on run 1 was cancelled for exceeding track limits, so it all came down to his second run. Rolling out of his first attempt, he only had one try left. Despite traffic on track, he set a 1'41.699s on lap 7/7 that put him in P11 on the grid for his home GP.

Ferrández was excited for his first Moto2 Q2 session. The rookie held his own and was in eleventh place after the first stint of time attacks. He was on course to set a personal best on the last lap of his second run when a rival crashed into him in Sector 4. Though Ferrández was unhurt, it ended his qualifying effort prematurely. His 1'42.594s, posted on lap 2/6, secured him 17th on the grid.

"The weekend had started in the best possible way. On Friday both riders were very competitive and both managed to go directly into Q2, so we genuinely believed we could fight for the very top positions – maybe not for pole position itself, but certainly close to the front rows.

"Unfortunately, things didn't go exactly as we expected today. Izan, in my opinion, was not able to put together his perfect lap because of traffic and a few small mistakes, but at the same time we also have to admit that, overall, we were not as sharp as we usually are. Still, nothing changes for the race because I believe we can absolutely still be in the fight.

"As for Alberto, he was unfortunately taken down by another rider during qualifying and crashed, so he never really had the opportunity to show his true potential today. But once again he confirmed the progress he is making day after day. Going directly into Q2 already showed the level he is reaching, and we are very happy with the direction he is taking."

"Today turned out to be much more complicated than we expected. Yesterday we were very confident about the direction we were taking and the work we were doing, but today, with the track conditions changing, everything suddenly became much more difficult for us.

"I don't know exactly what changed – maybe there was a lot more rubber on the track from the other categories – but from the first laps I struggled a lot with the feeling on the bike. I was still fast – especially this morning when our pace was among the best – but I started making many mistakes because the bike was moving a lot underneath me and I couldn't ride naturally or smoothly.

"The positive thing is that the speed is still there, so we need to stay calm and understand what happened because honestly the difference between yesterday and today was surprisingly big. Yesterday everything felt almost perfect and today we suddenly struggled much more, so clearly we need to analyse the data carefully tonight.

"I'm actually not too worried about the position itself because we are still not far from the front, and in this category things can change very quickly. What concerns me more is understanding the feeling with the bike and making it work the way I want again.

"The team is calm and I'm calm too. We know our potential, and we know we can fight at the front. Now the important thing is to understand what happened today, fix the issue, and come back stronger tomorrow."

"Today was a really difficult day. This morning we tried to focus on working with used tyres and understanding the bike better for the race distance, and I think we did a good job in that area.

"In qualifying we were a bit unlucky because on almost every lap I found traffic and wasn't able to put together a clean fast lap. Then, on my final attempt, another rider touched me and we crashed together, so unfortunately it was not possible to show our real potential today.

"Still, starting from P17 is my best grid position of the season so far, which is another positive step forward for us, even if I believe we had the pace for something better.

"Tomorrow we will try to push hard as always and do our best in the race."
