BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 Work Through a Difficult Qualifying Day in Jerez
The BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 Team completed a tough qualifying day of the Grand Prix of Spain. Izan Guevara finished ninth in Q2, but a previously applied three-place grid penalty moves him to P12 for tomorrow's race. Alberto Ferrández ended 14th in Q1, a result that would place him 28th on the grid. However, a penalty from the US Grand Prix means he will start from pit lane on Sunday.

The BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 Team faced challenges on the Saturday of the Grand Prix of Spain weekend. Despite a late crash in Q2, Izan Guevara ended the session in P9. Teammate Alberto Ferrández struggled to show his full potential in qualifying and wrapped up Q1 in P14.

Guevara suffered a crash in FP2 due to hitting a white line in damp conditions. Fully OK, he was able to continue his qualifying-day quest. Having been handed a three-place grid penalty due to slow riding on the race line on the Friday, he was all the more keen to set a fast lap, but a crash in the final minutes ended his challenge. His best time of 1'39.629s, set on lap 5/5, put him in ninth place in the classifications and in 12th position on tomorrow's grid.

Ferrández took part in Q1, completing 7 laps and recording a best time of 1'40.913s, which saw him finish 14th in the session and would place him 28th on the grid. However, following a penalty issued after the multi-rider incident at the US GP, the rookie will start tomorrow's Spanish GP Moto2 race from pit lane.

The 21-lap Moto2 race will take place on Sunday, starting at 12:15 (GMT+2).

"As far as Izan is concerned, I feel he showed how fast he can be, and this made me hugely happy because here in Jerez we always had a really hard time both during the winter tests and last year. So, this is a super postive thing. The crash kind of messed things up, but I believe he crashed because he really wanted to qualify well because he knows he's starting with a three-position penalty on the grid tomorrow. So, he was giving 300% in a very tense situation. Of course, the main thing is that he came away from the crash unhurt and with the awareness that he is very, very fast. I know he can have a fantastic race tomorrow.

"As for Alberto, of course, he didn't have the qualifying he wanted, but I feel the mistakes he made were, in a way, positive mistakes because he felt good on the bike, felt fast, and tried at the top of his possibility. We like that he has this hunger to grow and to get better and improve. He also will have a penalty and will need to start from pit lane tomorrow, so he also wanted to push as much as possible."

"Well, the second day in Jerez is over. I felt pretty good, actually. It's true that the conditions were a bit strange today with the rain. We had two crashes, one in the wet and one in the dry, but I did feel very fast. It's a shame another rider took me out in Turn 10 when I was coming in for a 1'39.1s. But, oh well, that's how it goes, these things happen.

"We'll start from 12th place tomorrow because of the three-place penalty, so we'll try to give it our best and overtake as many riders as we can. Why not try to fight for the podium, which is ultimately the goal for tomorrow."

"Today was a difficult day. This morning we used wet tyres for FP2, and I was feeling good with the bike and the tyres, so if tomorrow it's wet, we know what to do. In the afternoon, in the qualifying, I was actually feeling good with the bike, but when I tried my fast lap, I made a couple of mistakes and went wide in a couple of corners, so we know what happened with my position. It's obviously not the position we want, but it's a long road, and we know there are good days and difficult days. For sure, today was a difficult day, but we are hoping for a better day tomorrow."
