BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2's Izan Guevara and Alberto Ferrández got their Grand Prix of Qatar campaigns underway on the Friday. Under warm daytime conditions and the spectacular Lusail floodlights in the evening, the duo identified areas of improvement and ended the Practice session in P3 and P25 respectively.

Guevara immediately looked competitive around the flowing Lusail circuit, finishing the sunny FP1 session in P3. With the air temperature still a balmy 30°C in the evening Practice, the Spaniard continued to refine his pace. A strong late push saw him post a 1'56.136s on lap 13/15 that lifted him into third place, just 0.239s from the top. In doing so, Guevara successfully extended his remarkable 100% Q2 promotion record to twenty out of twenty race weekends this season.

For Ferrández, Friday marked a day of valuable firsts: he had never before experienced the Lusail International Circuit and its night-time racing conditions under floodlights. After ending FP1 in P17, the rookie continued to build confidence and knowledge throughout the evening session. The number 54 rider set a best lap of 1'57.360s on lap 12/14, placing him 25th in the Friday Practice standings, 1.463s from first place. He is on the entry list for Saturday's Q1 session.

Moto2 track action resumes tomorrow with FP2 taking place from 13:15-13:45 (GMT+3), before qualifying gets underway from 17:45-18:25.

"I managed a very good lap right at the end, although we had quite a few problems throughout the session. Our main focus is on preparing for Sunday, as I think this is one of the circuits where tyre management will be particularly important. We struggled quite a lot with the front tyre here last year, so we're putting in plenty of laps to understand where we are and how we can improve. We used a new tyre for the qualifying run and managed to put together a good lap, but I think the competition is very close. Our priority is to work on race pace rather than focusing only on one-lap performance."

"It was a difficult day. I'm still learning this circuit, which is quite challenging, and I haven't felt comfortable with the bike from the very beginning. We experienced a few issues and tried making some changes but, unfortunately, we weren't able to improve the feeling. Now we need to analyse everything carefully and find a solution for tomorrow. Hopefully, we can make a step forward, improve our performance, and continue progressing throughout the weekend."
