BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2's Izan Guevara made an impressive start to the Grand Prix of Japan at the recently resurfaced Mobility Resort Motegi, comfortably securing a place for tomorrow's Q2 despite an early setback.

A small radiator issue during FP1 limited the Spaniard's track time, restricting him to just nine laps in the opening session. Nevertheless, Guevara immediately demonstrated his pace, finishing sixth despite missing roughly half of the morning session.

Any concerns over the lost track time were quickly erased at the start of the afternoon Practice. Guevara got back up to speed imediately and set an, at that moment, new all-time lap record of 1'47.568s on just his third lap of the session.

After establishing himself among the fastest riders, he focused on race preparation and completed a total of 15 laps. His early benchmark remained strong enough to secure third position by the end of the session, just 0.060s from first, comfortably earning Guevara a direct passage into tomorrow's Q2.

Moto2 track action resumes on Saturday with FP2 taking place from 09:25-09:55 (GMT+9), before qualifying gets underway from 13:40-14:20.

"Overall, it was a good start in Motegi. I really like this track because there are some very strong braking points, and I think the characteristics of the circuit suit both my riding style and the Boscoscuro very well. We are less than one tenth from P1, so it is important to keep pushing at this level and continue to understand the bike and the track.

"The new asphalt makes things a little more difficult to understand at the moment. The track is completely different because the surface is new, so we need to learn how the grip works and how the bike reacts. I'm also feeling a little bit of chattering when I enter some corners, and sometimes I feel like I could close the front, so I need to stay focused and understand how to manage the bike.

"For the championship, the goal is obviously still to fight, but right now I'm trying to enjoy this moment. Three years ago, at this stage of the season, I made a mistake, so now I want to enjoy these races with the team, keep fighting, and try to recover points on Manu. Then we will see what happens in Valencia."
