Strong Italian GP Friday Sends Izan Guevara Straight Into Q2

The BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 Team showed their competitive speed at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello during the Grand Prix of Italy Friday. Izan Guevara made the most of the improved track conditions in this afternoon's Practice to secure P2 and a direct place in Q2, while teammate and rookie Alberto Ferrández showed promising pace and finished P20 in the timesheets.

The BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 Team demonstrated strong pace at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello during the first day of the Italian Grand Prix weekend. Taking full advantage of the dry conditions in the afternoon Practice, Izan Guevara delivered an impressive performance to secure P2 and a direct place in Q2, while Alberto Ferrández finished in P20 and will contest Q1.

Guevara finished FP1 in P12 after having led the session when conditions were still damp early on. However, he showed he was equally strong in the dry at the start of the afternoon Practice and soon became the man to beat, topping the live timing. He held the position until the final ten minutes before responding with a 1'49.431s, set on lap 12/14, which secured him second place in the afternoon session.

Ferrández really enjoys the Tuscan region, and it showed during the Friday Moto2 track action. He featured towards the top of the rankings in FP1, but as the track dried, he finished it in P14. He was keen to repeat the feat in the sunny Practice session to fight for a place in Q2. He posted a 1'50.669s on lap 11/13, which placed him 20th in the Practice classification, missing out on direct Q2 entry by 0.288s but feeling motivated ahead of Saturday's Q1.

Track action resumes on Saturday at 09:25-09:55 (GMT+2) for FP2, and the qualifying sessions will take place from 13:40-14:20.

"I think we are in a good place after this first day. It was a positive Friday – maybe not perfect yet – but we are already very close to the lap record, which is encouraging. Honestly, it was a really enjoyable day on track.

"There are still a few areas we can improve, especially with the front feeling. I experienced some chatter when pushing harder for a fast lap, particularly in the more aggressive sections of the circuit, and that disturbed me a little bit. If we can smooth that out completely, I think we can take another important step forward.

"What makes me happiest is that I continue to feel in a very strong moment with the bike and with the team. We have had the same positive feeling for several Grands Prix now, and that gives me a lot of confidence.

"Tomorrow the goal is to fight for the front row. Pole position itself is not the main objective – what matters most is being at the front and putting ourselves in the best possible position for the race."

"Today was a positive Friday here in Mugello. This morning, I immediately felt really good in the wet conditions and with the rain tyres. I was competitive from the beginning and able to put together good lap times throughout the whole session.

"The afternoon was a bit more difficult because it was my first time riding a Moto2 bike here in Mugello, so in many ways it still felt like a learning session for me. Even so, we tried to do our best and gather as much information as possible.

"The gap to first place is only around 1.2 seconds, which is not too much on such a long circuit, and we already have a clear idea of where we can improve. Overall, it was a good and positive Friday, and tomorrow we will try to take another step forward."
